Dear Parents, Guardians,                                                                                      

 

 

The Great Southern California ShakeOut

 

All Souls School will participate in the Great Southern California ShakeOut Drill this Thursday, November 13th at 10:00am.

This drill and evacuation uses simple steps to inform all teachers and students how to perform Drop, Cover, and Hold On – a quake-safe action designed to protect lives and prevent injuries from falling furniture and flying objects that can become projectiles during ground shaking.  Teachers and students will then evacuate the building according to the school disaster plan, as required for a quarterly or semi-annual earthquake safety drill.

 

 

Reading Bus to return to All Souls                                       

 

This week the familiar Reading Bus will return to its spot in the back play yard.  This service is provided by the Alhambra Unified School District (under Title I – No Child Left Behind) to help students with reading.  Students must reside within the AUSD boundaries.  Ms. Karen Raab will be the instructor.  Those students who qualify for the program will be pulled from regular classes for one half hour per day.  If your child is involved in the program the teacher will notify you.

 

 

Fr. Preston Passos to lead Retreat

 

We are very fortunate to have Fr. Preston Passos return to All Souls to give a retreat to the eighth grade class on Tuesday, November 18th.  The retreat will take place here on the school/church premises.  Fr. Preston was a Deacon here at All Souls prior to his ordination to the priesthood.  He is looking forward to spending time with the eighth graders since he already knows many of them.

 

 

Food Drive for St. Vincent de Paul

 

All families are encouraged to donate canned/dried food for the needy during the Food Drive which is taking place this week.

 

 

Report Cards

 

Report cards will be sent home on Friday, November 21st.  Please sign the report card and return it to your child’s teacher during the Parent/Teacher conference.

 

 

 

Parent/Teacher Conferences

 

Please remember to sign up for a conference with your child’s teacher.  Conferences will be held on November 24th and 25th.  Dismissal will be at 12:30pm on November 24th, 25th, and 26th.

 

Students/Parents to Celebrate Thanksgiving

 

On Friday, November 21st (12:00pm-1:30pm) the All Souls Advisory Board is planning a Thanksgiving lunch for all the students.  During the lunch each class will perform a song or a poem etc. for entertainment.  Please see the enclosed flyer with the details.

 

Parents Night Out – December 5th

 

Mark your calendar for an evening of fun and camaraderie with your fellow parents at Ambiente on December 5th.  Drop your child off at the hall, where the Panther Care Staff will treat them to an evening of fun, games, movies and treats.

 

All Souls Children’s Choir to sing at Joselyn Senior Center

 

On December 5th the All Souls Children’s Choir is invited to sing Christmas Carols at the Joselyn Senior Center.  The children will bring joy and cheer to the elderly residents.

 

Cathedral Tutoring Program

 

This Saturday, November 15th, the eighth graders will have the second tutoring session at Cathedral High School.  The bus will arrive at the school at 7:30am and return to the school at 12:45pm.

 

 

Awards Assembly on November 26th at 8:00am

 

At the end of each trimester awards will be given by each teacher.  Please join us on November 26th at 8:00am for the first Awards Assembly.  The agreed upon criteria in each grade are:

 

First Honors                 GPA 3.7 – 4.0

Second Honors            GPA 3.5 – 3.6

 

Certificates will be awarded in each grade for:

Most Improved Academically

Most Improved in Effort

Good Samaritan/Citizenship
